Anchor Text Optimization

Anchor Text Optimization

Anchor text is the visible text showing in a link. In a normally built site, anchor text is usually used to indicate the subject and title of the page that it links to. Search engines put a very big importance on Anchor texts.

Keywords in anchor text enhance the relevance of the target page pertaining to the keywords used.

A mistake some newbies make is to put their website name into the Anchor Text. It is good if your domain contains your keywords, but if not, it is a waste of a perfectly good link. Many web sites no longer ranking because they use their official company name in Anchor Text.

Vary your text throughout your links

Some webmasters have often focused on a single keyword phrase when choosing anchor text, it is important to understand how sites get penalized for having unnatural backlink anchor text.

A site with organic, passively-obtained backlinks will have a wide variety of backlink anchor text variations such as: "official site title", "keyword", "keyword synonym", "www.your-domain.com" and even "click here". People often link to you using the words in your domain name as the link text, so try to vary and combine your keyword throughout your links.

Foe example if your keyword is "laptop" you can use these phrases into anchor text: "cheep laptop", "best laptop", or even "notebook".

Use Anchor Text within your site

A common mistake webmasters make is to use common words like "here" instead of content related keywords within their site. Don't forget to use anchor text when link pages of your site each other.

How Social Networking is Helpful in Internet Marketing

With the emergence of Web 2.0 the trend of social networking has fast caught up in the race of Internet marketing. People are making good use of the latest social networking means to interact over the Internet. There are several ways in which networking has infected the present Internet marketing avenue. Some of the most popular Online networking means these days are, blogs, social media communication, video chats, forums, directory submission etc. lets take a look at how social media or social networking has been useful in Online marketing.

Many people are under the wrong notion that social media has replaced the way Internet marketing functions. As a matter of fact marketing in the Internet has only changed the way it functions. It has added to the mix making it more interactive and communicative than ever before.

Internet marketing these days states that there should be a right blend of the traditional marketing forms and the latest social networking methodologies in order to obtain the best of both the marketing strategies. Though both the marketing forms are extremely different and unique in their own ways, there are a few advantages that social networking enjoys over the traditional marketing method. Lets see what these advantages are:

It is absolutely free: while some of the traditional marketing techniques like PPC, CPM etc, are paid services, there is no service in social media that is paid. It vows for completely free Internet marketing solutions. This is one of the primary reasons why social networking has moved a step ahead of other marketing fundas.

Targeting your market is much easier in the social media than it is in the traditional online marketing practices. Moreover, social networking provides an opportunity to the marketers to get up and close to their target so much so that they can even communicate directly with them asking for their feedbacks and suggestions.

On a more practical ground, it is seen that it is always much more advantageous to have a unison of the two Online marketing strategy in order to ensure that your website is receiving complete Online marketing treatment and showing positive results too.

Search the internet for money!

My Search Funds is a UK based company that has partnered with Ask.com. Users are paid for their loyalty to Ask.com.

This means that when they search with the toolbar (minute in size, very easily installed as an add-on to Firefox and IE), they are paid by Ask.com (Approx. $0.05 per search). Of course, it is made sure that there was no click fraud. I made $2.25 from 46 searches in two days (I've searched a lot).

They say that the average searcher can make a reasonable $140 a year., this is without refferals. Of course, a lot of us search a lot more than once a day, and therefore the earnings can be larger. The earnings are not instantly updated, however the number of searches made are. Every day, in accordance to the number of searches you have made, you will be granted revenue. This revenue is paid every 45 days. This means that for every search you made in February, those earnings will be paid to you by mid April.

You can tell that the site is legit by simply looking at their details. They have a company number, phone number, address and everything a scam site would not have.

12 Usefull traffic tips

If you are blogging to attract new customers and prospects to your business, it is important that you have a successful blueprint to follow.

With that in mind I created my step by step Blogging Blueprint, which you can find below:

1 While writing a blog, think like a visitor, as this helps immensely. If a blogger dons the visitor's thinking cap, there is more likelihood the words a visitor will use to query search engines will be present in the blog.

2. Add a good layout and catchy adverts to a blog. This helps because the visitor might want to stay longer reading the blog, rather than scooting away to another site.

3. Once the blog is published, it is a good idea to 'visit' the blog assuming to be a visitor. Going over links and various pages can give a feeling of how a visitor will react to the blog.

4. Inspect the site regularly, as this can uncover any broken links. Likewise, it is also a good opportunity to do some site maintenance as well. Jotting down points like what can be added to augment site appeal and what else could be added to the FAQ page can be of immense advantage.

5. Use valuable keywords that are more likely to be used by visitors to search for your blogs. If there are individuals who want to read about, lets say, power gardening tools, then missing out key words like power or gardening can be a huge mistake. This is because search engines will give the blog a go-by and opt it out of the listings.

Further, the visitor may even chance upon the blog in the listings, but may choose to avoid the site, because the keywords were not highlighted in the large search engine listing.

6. Posting articles about 700 words in length is considered good if taking into account search engine indexing tactics. You can make the post search engine friendly by inserting relevant keywords and links at the right places.

7. You can incorporate specific keywords, which are adored by search engines. Integrate keywords into title, meta and alt tags to entice the search engine spider to give the blog a higher page rank.

8. Listening to feedbacks and visitor complaints can be a blessing for you. Despite a lot of effort, a blog might contain obvious technical glitches or perhaps the content might require further elaboration or alterations. Just keep creating fresh content, Content is king.

9. Spamming can sometimes be disguised as intelligent comments, which might include further links or invitations to a spammer's website. Niche blogs might wish to opt out of the custom of inviting comments.

10. If you are into business blogging, picking up good categories like skin care, dry skin care, skin care specials, exclusive skin care products, etc can be particularly rewarding. A good post on niche products can improve keyword density while providing wholesome reading material for visitors.

11. Many bloggers give up after publishing a few blogs. Although there is no right answer to how often you should blog, the secret of profitable blogging is to publish regularly and as frequently as necessary while avoiding both extremes.

12. Use permalinks (permanent links) where servers allow their use. Permalinks allow the use of words as path names, unlike regular links to articles that may contain percentage signs or shorter cryptic pathnames. The secret is to use key words as path names on servers where the use of permalinks is allowed. This makes the site more appealing to those search engines that also look at links for indexing.

Love your Subject!

How many people do you know who has a blog of their own? The chances are, quite a few! It seems every man, woman and their dog have a blog, and who could argue? Blogs are a great (and in Blogger’s case, free) way to publish online. People blog for all different types of reasons, such as:

- Expressing their thoughts, ideas and views on different topics;
- Keeping in touch with friends and relatives;
- Keeping their readers up to date with new developments;
- Earning an income, from a few cents a day right through to several thousands of dollars a month.

All of these different reasons for blogging have a common denominator – bloggers generally enjoy writing in their blog. If you didn’t enjoy the subject upon which you’re blogging, then what’s the point? And in the case of reason number 4, this is, in my opinion, the single most important factor.

If you plan on creating a blog with the sole intention of generating an income from it, then you had better choose your niche wisely! For example, if you created a blog based on the profitability factor of the subject matter, then you’d better be prepared to slog it out at times, as if you’ve no interest in the subject, you will very soon get bored of it and run out of ideas to post. If you want your blog to be a long-term entity, then choose a subject which genuinely interests you. If you’re really captivated by a subject, then you naturally think about it a lot, which will lead to great ideas which you can then post in your blog. And one thing which the readers of your blog love is great content!

I decided to create a blog around the subject of creating traffic to my blog (you could call it a ‘meta-blog’!!). The reason I chose this subject is because I’m absolutely fascinated with the hundreds (thousands?) of different factors involved in generating blog traffic. I’ve always loved using computers as well, so I’m at my happiest when I’m plonked in front of a computer screen!

I’m also excited about the future development of my blog, which could take any number of different roads based on the decisions I make. The success of my blog depends entirely on my decisions, and my decisions alone. No pressure then!!

Like I said previously, I love the subject upon which I am writing, and I feel this will give my blog a better-than-average chance of success. I feel that I could write hundreds of different posts for my blog, and it’s a real challenge to stay at work when I could be at home blogging and nurturing my blog!

Bottom line? I love the subject I am blogging about, and I think this is the single most crucial factor in giving your blog genuine staying-power.

Submit to the Main Search Engines

There are hundreds or perhaps even thousands of search engines out there on the web, but the reality is 90 to 95% of web surfers only use a handful of them.

Google, Live, Yahoo, AOL and Ask (formerly Ask Jeeves) are the most popular right now, and they are all you really need to be concerned with at the moment.

Once you get listed with the main ones, you'll eventually show up in some of the other "less important" engines since many of them are just portals of the more popular ones.

For example, Netscape.com has a search engine, but they pull their results in from Google. So if you're ranked #1 in Google for "blue widgets" then you'll have the same ranking in Netscape for that keyword phrase.

There are many engines that feed from the popular ones so there is no need to go and submit to these portal engines since you're covered under the main ones.

Where to Submit

Once your site has at least 15 pages, submit your URL to the big three:

Google: http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl

Yahoo: http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request

Live (Formerly MSN): http://search.msn.co.in/docs/submit.aspx

Please be patient. It may take weeks, or even months for your site to appear, especially with Google. Live usually adds your site pretty quickly.

To check to see if your site has been indexed, simply type your full URL into the search box.

Don't Keep Submitting

Many people get anxious while waiting for the search engines to add their site, and they keep submitting. You run the risk of getting your site banned if you do this.

I know it's tempting, but rest assured that your site was received the first time.

The Engines Love Content

If you find that your site is not showing up in the major engines, it may be time to take a look at your content. How many pages are on your site, for example? You should have at least 15 to 20 pages, as the engines love meaty sites -- especially Google. The more content, the better.

What About The Other Engines?

You may be wondering about Ask, AOL, etc. As, I mentioned earlier, a lot of those other engines are just portals. So once you show up in the big three,
you'll eventually begin seeing traffic from the other engines.
Just be patient.

Participate in Valuable Link Exchanges

Link popularity is probably the most important criteria engines use for ranking your site (especially Google). They want to see how many different websites are pointing back to you.

However, it's not just about the number of links anymore. What's more important is the quality of links. The search engines don't care if you have 10,000 different websites linking to you if 9900 of them are irrelevant to your site's theme.

Here's an example...

Let's say your site is about investing stocks. You scour the net looking for anyone that will exchange links with you, no matter the topic of their site.

After about 2 months you have successfully found 60 link partners that agree to put a link back to your site in exchange for a link to theirs. There's one problem though. Fifty of those 60 partners' sites have nothing to do with stocks.

The search engines see this when they go and spider the net and they check your backlinks (sites that link to you). So they discount many of those links pointing to your site that are not related to your theme. In a nutshell, they are viewed as irrelevant from a search engine's point of view.

That's why it's very important for you to seek out link partnerships with sites that are related to your website's theme. If your site is about stocks, you want to find websites related to investing and other money related topics. It will help your search engine presence in the long run.

Not to mention, it's pretty worthless for your site's traffic when you partner with sites not related to your theme. A gardening website, for example, probably wouldn't generate much interest for a stock related site anyway.

Contextual Links are Best

Contextual links are links that appear within the context of an article. So let's say you have a site on plants and you're writing an article about plant food.

You know of an excellent site that gives great advice about feeding plants so you decide to mention that site within the article.

This does the website owner a huge favor because that link is surrounding by content that relates to their site. The engines pick up on this and will give them "points" for having a link amidst relevant

information.

So when you exchange links with someone, don't just slap their link on a "Links" or "Partners" page. Not only do search engines ignore these pages, but so do Web surfers.

Review their site and suggest a place for your link and allow them to do the same. Explain to them you'll both receive greater benefits if you engage in a contextual exchange, where the link appears within a relevant body of content.

Attract traffic with a contest

A contest can be a lot of work to manage, but the traffic rewards may be worth it. Some webmasters hold multiple contests per year simply to draw in the repeat traffic from those looking to re-enter.

The great thing about contests is that you can collect the email addresses of everyone that enters. This provides you with multiple opportunities to communicate with your participants.

You could send them an email thanking them for entering, and when the contest is over you'll send another one announcing the winner. Of course these are great opportunities to further promote your site and mention any other special offers.

You may even want to create a separate mailing list just for the participants so you can contact them to announce future contests and promotions.

Don't Offer Cheap and Cheesy Prizes

Whatever you do, make sure the prizes have some kind of value to your visitors. Don't insult them by offering something low in quality or products they can easily obtain for free on their own.

If your site is geared toward other webmasters, a good prize would be free advertising on your homepage for a month (provided your site gets a good amount of traffic).

Make It Easy

Don't confuse your visitors with complicated rules and drawn out registration forms. The only information you probably need to collect is their name, email and website address. Most people will be leery of entering info like their address and phone number anyway. Keep it simple.

Legalities

Make sure your contest rules are clearly defined. I know people don't generally read the fine print, T&C's, etc. but make sure they are visible so you're covered no matter what.
